Increasing Public Water Refill Stations

Increasing Public Water Refill Stations

Our continued partnership with Noosa Council and UnityWater helps us identify new locations where water stations can be placed.

This can include installing new stations as well as retrofit of existing infrastructure to facilitate the ability to refill water bottles. Increasing water stations is becoming a priority for many Councils and can be seen as meeting Waste Reduction and Recycling Plan targets.

UnityWater and Noosa Shire Council have already installed 16 new filtered units, including a significant Kabi Kabi O-initiative model on iconic Hastings Street in front of the Noosa Visitor Information Centre.

Over 30 potential sites across Noosa have already been identified throughout this process.

By working with Councils and utilities, this stage of the Water Bottle Strategy seeks to further increase (or capitalise on) the number of high-visibility and ‘trusted’ water stations throughout the community. It also assists with the message of ‘clean water’ as Australia is fortunate to have a great water supply that can be promoted. Of particular interest in the strategy is to have multiple water stations concentrated within significant areas of public traffic (eg Hastings St, Noosa Junction, walking trails, sporting complexes, markets) to facilitate this demand and support the message within the business community.

The installation of these water stations provides a visible and permanent commitment to reduction of single use. Additionally, they directly address the behaviours and perceptions of the population at present.
