COMMUNITY CLEAN-UPS
We're turning the tide on plastic in our paradise
Plastic Free Noosa teams up with industry and events for regular community clean-ups.
Our projects align with Tourism Noosa's priorities and guiding principles to protect the Noosa Brand.
The Noosa community has a long and proud history of protecting and enhancing this region’s world-class nature for generations to come, and Tourism Noosa has come along on this journey through implementing environmentally sustainable programs including Plastic Free Noosa, Sustainable Events, Trees for Tourism, and Noosa Eco Check which aim to encourage businesses to adopt more sustainable practices and reduce their environmental impact, while achieving cost savings.
Tourism Noosa's Water Bottle Strategy is comprehensive and addresses our single-use plastics issue in an innovative way.
Each stage of the strategy can be rolled out independently, allowing for promotion, progress
and momentum of the initiative to gain traction within the community while still developing the
other stages and solutions in this rapidly changing environment.
1. Refill network and discoverability
Create a network of ‘refill here’ points (local businesses, water stations) which identify locations where consumers can refill water bottles. Points will be identified through signage/stickers and can be located on an interactive map.
2. Replace single-use plastic bottles
Provide a range of water bottle options for sale, to allow a continued alternative income stream. In addition, reusable options at different price points are made available cheaply to participating businesses to on-sell in lieu of disposable water bottles.
3. Increase public water refill stations
Work with Councils and Water Utilities to invest and increase the number of public water refill stations and promote their use.
4. Events are encouraged through the Plastic Free Events program to eliminate single-use water bottles and provide alternatives

Our tourism body (Tourism Noosa) has an incredibly engaged membership of over 800 businesses.
At least 90 + of Tourism Noosa's members are food and beverage outlets which were and still are the primary target of the Plastic Free Noosa program. 150 of these members are accommodation resorts and hotels, this is our next focus along with the tour and activity sector.
Ready to go plastic free? Plastic Free Noosa helps to protect the environment by empowering the Noosa community in eliminating single-use plastics through direct engagement, recognition and facilitating circular economies.
